MICROSOFT CO-FOUNDER PAUL ALLEN DIES OF CANCER COMPLICATIONS

Microsoft Corp co-founder Paul Allen, the man who persuaded school-friend Bill Gates to drop out of Harvard to start what became the world’s biggest software company, died on Monday at the age of 65, his family said. Allen left Microsoft in 1983, before the company became a corporate juggernaut, following a dispute with Gates, but his share of their original partnership allowed him to spend the rest of his life and billions of dollars on yachts, art, rock music, sports teams, brain research and real estate. Allen died from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer, the Allen family said in a statement. In early October, Allen had revealed he was being treated for the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,

Wallabies great George Smith returns for injury-hit Reds in time for Chiefs clash

Veteran flanker George Smith is set to make his first start of the season for the Reds against the Chiefs in Brisbane.

The return of Wallabies great George Smith has lifted a Reds back row reeling from the news that Lukhan Tui will need knee surgery.
Smith, 37, is poised to make his return from late 2017 back surgery after being named on the bench for Saturday night's Super Rugby clash with the Chiefs at Suncorp Stadium.
Reds flanker Angus Scott-Young said Smith's presence had boosted the back row after being told Tui faced a lengthy sideline stint.
Scott-Young will replace Tui at blindside flanker in a back-row reshuffle, earning his first start since round six.
"He brings so much experience," Scott-Young said of Smith.
Reds coach Brad Thorn relished the chance to pick 111-test veteran openside flanker Smith.
"It's great to see the old master return," said Thorn.
Straight talking Scott-Young – son of Wallabies enforcer Sam Scott-Young – admitted the Reds' much-maligned attack did "switch off" late in games.
But he dodged any suggestion Thorn should consider recalling exiled former Wallaby playmaker Quade Cooper despite their misfiring attack.
"That's up to the coach," he said.
"In the back half of the game, we are switching off in attack. Our attack game plan is not complex but, if we do it well, it should produce tries.
"There's been a lot of dropped ball as well. If we rectify those issues, we will be scoring more tries."
Facing their first Kiwi opposition of the season, the Reds have also been boosted by the injury return of blockbusting prop Taniela Tupou and halfback Ben Lucas, both restored to the starting team.
With a 3-4 record after a comprehensive 37-16 loss to the Waratahs, the Reds need a win to stay in touch with the Waratahs and Brumbies in the Australian conference. But they are likely to find it hard against an exciting Chiefs team with a 5-2 record.
"I think the next two games will be a big moment in our season," Scott-Young said.
"The Chiefs and Lions are both tough opposition. If we go well against them, it bodes well for our season."

JOB CREATION AS A PANACEA TO YOUTH RESTIVENESS (NIGERIA)

By Eric D. Nnaji  CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION The words ‘youth’ and ‘restiveness’ have become so commonly used together in the last couple of years that it seems to have taken on a life of its own. In the last decade and more there has been a proliferation of cases all over the country and indeed the world, of youth agitations which have tons of people dead and valuable infrastructure as well as personal properties lost and destroyed. A sustained protestation embarked upon to enforce a desired outcome from a constituted authority by an organised body of youths, fits the label of youth restiveness. It is also a combination of any action or conduct that constitutes unwholesome, socially unacceptable activities engaged in by the youths in any community. It is a phenomenon which in practice has led to a near breakdown of law and order, low productivity due to disruption of production activities, increasing crime rate, intra-ethnic hostilities, and harassment of prospective d

Eels players slam rumours of rift with Arthur

by Adrian Proszenko Furious Parramatta players held an honesty session to address rumours Brad Arthur had lost the dressing room, vowing to earn the wins required to take the pressure off their coach. As soon as reports emerged this week that Arthur had fallen out with his charges, Brad Takairangi posted a link to the offending article on the players’ group chat. What followed was a frank exchange between the squad in which the players backed Arthur and took responsibility for the Eels’ poor performances.         Plenty of support: Eels stars have come out in support of Brad Arthur.  Photo: NRL Imagery The players subsequently gathered at their training headquarters at Old Saleyards Reserve, away from the coaching staff, to address the issue. “It’s stupid,” Clint Gutherson said of the Arthur speculation. “One of the boys saw it on Instagram and put it on the group chat. “Everyone was furious about it because it’s a lie. He has got so much respect from all of the t

Chelsea team to face Southampton: Morata & Cahill dropped as Hazard returns in FA Cup semi-final

By Oliver Harbord Chelsea Correspondent 07:50, 21 APR 2018 The FA Cup is the final chance for Chelsea to win some silverware this season and at least put a bit of gloss on what has been a slightly disappointing season across the other competitions. With the top four Premier League spots maybe out of reach for the rest of the campaign, winning the FA Cup could be the first time Antonio Conte wins a cup competition as a manager and so he will go to the full strength of his squad. Marcos Alonso is still suspended, but it is likely that Emerson Palmieri will not start the match and instead you could see Davide Zappacosta start the game in the left wing-back role. Up front might be where the biggest decision will come, and Olivier Giroud's performances might warrant a start for the Frenchman over Alvaro Morata, with Eden Hazard and Willian likely to come back into the side after being rested against Burnley on Thursday night. At the same time, Cesc Fabregas wil
